Annelle Louise (Haden) Jenkins, 98, earned her wings on Aug. 17, 2024. She was born and raised in Madison County, KY., the daughter and only child of Cecil W. and Edith F. (Mason) Haden.

She was whip-smart and independent-minded; loved to work (never met a job she didn't like); served her community in many organizations and posts; enjoyed travel and how it opened up the world; loved employing a well-turned phrase; cherished all animals, but especially horses, upon which she spent many a good hour riding on her parents' farm in Madison County.

She graduated from Central High in Richmond, Ky. During WWII, while her husband, Wayne, was in the European Theatre, she worked at the Blue Grass Ordance Depot (now Blue Grass Army Depot). After the war, she and Wayne moved to a farm in Henry County.  Annelle quickly became an active member in the community. She was a long-time member of New Castle Christian Church, involved as a Sunday School teacher and in the Christian Women’s Fellowship there.

She was a member of the New Castle PTA for eight years. She was a charter member of the Henry County Women’s Democratic Club, where she held several offices, including president. She was elected recording secretary of the state Kentucky Women’s Democratic Club.

Annelle was also a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club in Shelbyville, where she served in various offices including president. She was a charter member and life member of the Henry County Historical Society. She was active in the Kentucky Charolais Association, where she served as a secretary-treasurer and member of the board of directors.

She worked at many different jobs in her life, mainly as an exceptional secretary. Annelle enjoyed her time at Berry & Floyd law firm, the Henry County Clinic, the Shelbyville Chamber of Commerce, and the Henry County Circuit Clerk’s office, where she served as deputy clerk and, briefly, as chief court clerk.

Annelle had been at Twin Oaks Assisted Living Facility in New Castle, KY, for the past 14 years. The family thanks the Twin Oaks staff for their care of and love for her. Special thanks to her loving caregivers in recent years: Desiree Embs, Rose Hall, and Emarie Mason. They helped mom in immeasurable ways.
