Elizabeth Swann “Betsy” (Brown) Rouse of New Castle, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at age 98. Daughter of the late John Hampton and Mary (Swann) Brown, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Brown, her husband Layton Louis Rouse, and a great-grand daughter Ellie Louise Nolin.
She was born in Pewee Valley, KY and grew up in Louisville. She graduated from Atherton High School and Whitworth College in Brookhaven, MS. While at Whitworth, Betsy began what would be a lifelong love of traveling. She traveled to Cuba, the Panama Canal, Nicaragua and New Orleans for Mardi Gras.
After college, Betsy returned to Louisville for a time before WWII would take her family to San Francisco, CA. It was there that she met her husband of 66 years, Layton “Mickey” Rouse.
Betsy and Mickey married in January 1946 at Crescent Hill United Methodist Church in Louisville. They would raise their family in Carrollton, KY.
Betsy managed her husband’s dental practice while raising two daughters Dorothy and Mary Louise. She was an avid golfer and always loved a good game of cards. Betsy was always current with the latest social, political, financial and sporting news. She especially loved all things associated with the University of Kentucky.
Her retirement years were spent traveling the world and spending time with her family.

Memorial Service: 1 PM on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Burial will follow in New Castle Cemetery. Officiated by Dr. Corky Klingenfus of Southeast Christian Church.
Visitation: 10 AM until service time on Tuesday at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.
