Hortense (Cunningham) “Nana, Granny” Armstrong, age 82 of Eminence, passed away at Jewish Hospital on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at 2:24 PM.  Born on May 26, 1938 in Lawrenceburg to the late Horace B. and Emma (Miller) Cunningham, she served as a teacher’s aide at Eminence Independent Schools for over thirty years.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Eminence, KY where she served as treasurer for over thirty years.  She also served as a member of the Eminence City Council. Hortense was preceded in death by her daughter, Lyla Hortensia Malone, four grandchildren, one brother and three sisters.

Husband of 62 years:  George John Armstrong, Jr. of Eminence


Daughters:       Vanessa Lynn (Craig) Stevenson of Louisville

                        Charita Armstrong of Louisville

                        Tamara Aguilar of Pleasureville


Son:                 George John (LeeAnn) Armstrong III of Eminence

                        Gerald (Joelle) Armstrong of Louisville


Brother:           Horace “Sonny” (Sandra) Cunningham of Piscataway, NJ


Host of Grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.



Funeral Service:    1 PM on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Eminence Independent School Gymnasium, officiated by Rev. Lloyd Watkins.   Rev. Charles Duncan, Jr. will be assisting.


Interment:     Eminence Cemetery

Due to Covid, we chose the gymnasium so that mom’s friends and loved ones can attend while still social distancing.  Arrangements entrusted to Prewitt Funeral Home.
