Joseph “Joe” Farkas, age 93 of Eminence, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019.  Born in Harend, Hungary on February 1, 1926 to the late Julius and Elizabeth (Ezmeyer) Farkas, Joe served in the Hungarian Armed Forces.  Joe immigrated to New York City with his wife, Elizabeth, in 1956 as a refugee.  He received his Bachelorette Degree in Art Design and was a sculptor designer, working for world renowned Herend Porcelain Company. He moved to Shelbyville in 1970 and started a company, Kentucky Mold.  As an inspirational artist, he volunteered his talents and donated materials to several schools in the area including University of Louisville and Henry & Shelby County High Schools. He was also a naturalist and enjoyed farming. For over a decade he was involved with Farmers Bureau of Shelbyville and Henry County.  Joseph was a member of St. John Catholic Church of Eminence.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Marilyn Farkas, and a sister, Veronica Farkas, of Hungary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. John Catholic Church of Eminence.


A funeral mass will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at St. John Catcholic Church in Eminence. Burial will follow in Eminence Cemetery. There will be no visitation at Prewitt Funeral Home.
