Phill Oliver, age 61 of Washington, PA passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022. Born in Shelbyville, Phill was a native of Henry County. Phill completed his bachelor’s degree at Eastern Kentucky University. After graduation, he worked as a restaurant manager. Phill was able to move from the restaurant industry to the convenience store business when he began working as a category manager with Thornton Oil. Eventually his career took him to Virginia and Pennsylvania, and then to northern Kentucky where he worked for Kroger Corporate in downtown Cincinnati. Phill was passionate about his work and was extremely good at what he did. He particularly enjoyed finding ways to improve processes and mentoring others. An accomplished public speaker, he frequently gave presentations in front of hundreds of people and made it look easy with his industry knowledge, sense of humor, and rapier wit. Phill hated to sit through boring business presentation slides and always managed to figure out a way to have fun while still making his point. This skill also came in handy with the family as well. Lively discussions about the merits of UK versus U of L could last for hours before the conversations would move on to less controversial topics like politics. In recent years, he got a huge kick of living in Steeler Country while having season tickets for Bengals football and he wasn’t afraid to advertise this with his collection of Bengals hats and t-shirts. A loving husband and devoted father, Phill will be missed for his quiet faith, his steadfastness, and his perseverance. He was a good man. Phill was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Lee (Quire) Oliver; infant sister, Jackie Kay and brother, Rick L. Oliver.
